Land-based cultural identity

“We have lived upon this land from days beyond history’s records, far past any living memory, deep into the time of legend.

The story of my people and the story of this land are one single story. No man can think of us without thinking of this place.

We are always joined together.”
-Taos Pueblo Tribal Manifesto

This quote strongly resonates the historical ties and sentiments of all tribal nations to their ancestral lands. Simply beautiful!

  1. Wow! Coincidentally, I’m half Taos Pueblo on my mom’s side. My Dad is Tlingit.

There are common cultural foundations shared by the two tribes. Connection to the land is certainly one of them.

  2. awesome, that is a nice mix!

I was reading about the Taos Pueblo battle for regaining Blue Lake and came across that quote. It definitely hit a strong cord with me.

    • I will be going to Blue Lake this year or next. Taos Pueblo Indians are old school. Thanks for sharing.
